'Logan' Reveals First Look at Villain Zander Rice

The character was instrumental in creating X-23 in the comics.

Meet Dr. Xander Rice (though on second thought, he's not the type of person one would ever want to meet).

The Logan Instagram account has shared a photo of the comic book character, played by Richard E. Grant. In the comics, the sadistic scientist was instrumental to the creation of X-23, the female clone of Wolverine. He's also got other ties to Wolverine. Rice's father worked on the original Weapon X project and was killed by Wolverine during the mutant hero's escape.

Director James Mangold has not confirmed that Laura (Dafne Keen), the young protagonist of Logan, will be called X-23 in the film — but it is clearly drawing inspiration from that storyline.

Logan will also have Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook) as the film's chief villain to face off against Laura, Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Prof. X (Patrick Stewart).

Logan will hit theaters March 3. Follow Heat Vision on Facebook and Twitter for more from the X-Men movieverse.
