Continuing his English-language hot streak, Mexican star Luis Gerardo Méndez has nabbed a key role in Sony’s new Charlie’s Angels movie.

Méndez joins Kristen Stewart, Elizabeth Banks, Naomi Scott, Ella Balinska and Patrick Stewart on the call sheet for the project, which Banks is directing.

The new story takes the female-fronted detective-agency premise of the original 1976-81 TV series and 2000 and 2003 movies global, with the Townsend Agency now a security and intelligence service that has teams around the world. The film will focus on one of those teams and the next generation of Angels.

Although character details remain shrouded in mystery, Méndez will play a character named The Saint.

Sony will release Charlie’s Angels on Sept. 27, 2019.

Producing are Banks and her husband, Max Handelman; Doug Belgrad, who is also co-financing through his 2.0 Entertainment; and Elizabeth Cantillon.

Méndez is coming off of recently wrapping his English-language debut with Murder Mystery, Netflix’s comedic whodunit starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston.

Mendez starred in Gaz Alazraki’s 2013 comedy Nosotros Los Nobles, which grossed over $28 million to become Mexico’s second-most-successful film of all time. He was nominated for an Ariel Award for best actor for his performance. Mendez next appears in Time Share (Tiempo compartido), which premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival and opened in August in Mexico.

The actor, who is the face of Verizon in Latin America, is repped by Paradigm Talent Agency, GoodManagement and Talent on the Road Management.
