'Maleficent' Trailer: Angelina Jolie Is a Shadowy Menace (Video)

The first footage from Disney's upcoming film about the origin of its "Sleeping Beauty" villain has debuted.

Angelina Jolie stalks a magical forest in the teaser trailer for Disney's Maleficent.

In the clip, Elle Fanning's Aurora provides the main voiceover as scenes of her playing and enjoying her childhood are interspersed with shadowy images of Jolie's villain, who places a curse on Aurora after she suffers a ruthless betrayal.

"I know who you are. You've been watching over me my whole life," she says. "I know you're there. Your shadow, it's been following me ever since I was small. Don't be afraid."

The trailer also shows Maleficent conjuring up intertwined trees and thorned branches as green smoke emerges from her hands.

There are also foreshadowing shots of Aurora tentatively approaching the iconic spinning wheel spindle from Sleeping Beauty and her, um, sleeping.
