Marvel Entertainment has named its first new series of 2017, and things are looking pretty monstrous for the new year.

The news comes after a week of teaser images linking writer Cullen Bunn with the initials "M.U." and a variety of artists including Darth Vader's Salvador Larroca and Uncanny X-Men's Greg Land.

"M.U." stands for Monsters Unleashed!, a new series written by Bunn with art by Steve McNiven, Leinil Yu, Adam Kubert, Land and Larroca. The title was announced at Diamond Comic Distributors' annual comic book retailers summit, held in Baltimore, Md., and shared online via Diamond's PreviewsWorld Twitter account.

Marvel has yet to release any information about the series outside of the title, creative team and launch date, but Monsters Unleashed was previously the name an 11-issue black and white horror anthology magazine published by Marvel imprint Curtis Magazines from 1973 through 1975. The new title will launch in January 2017.

The monster contingent of Marvel's back catalogue has already received some attention recently; one of last year's All-New All-Different Marvel relaunch titles was Howling Commandos of SHIELD, a series in which various horror and supernatural characters worked for the famous spy organization. Following low sales, the series was canceled after six issues.

The company also announced a second new project during its presentation Thursday afternoon: Inhumans/X-Men: ResurrXion, the third part in a trilogy pitting the two subsets of Marvel heroes against each other, following Death of X and Inhumans vs. X-Men. No date was announced for this spelling-challenged project.
