Marvel To Launch 'Secret Wars' Comic Event Via Online Livestream

'Secret Wars Live Kickoff' will feature Marvel's editor-in-chief teasing the impact of the eight-issue storyline

Marvel Entertainment is determined that its upcoming Secret Wars comic book series will be, in its words, “the biggest comic event of the year” — and to ensure that everyone knows about it, the company has announced a live online event to launch it.

Secret Wars Live Kickoff will be streamed live from Midtown Comics, a popular New York City comic book chain — also Marvel’s partner in its comic book subscription service — and feature editor-in-chief Axel Alonso and SVP, executive editor Tom Brevoort introducing the concepts of the eight-issue series, which will also spill out into consumer products and digital releases throughout its run.

The official announcement of the event promises “the coming of a new Battleworld and… the first details of the strange, patchwork realm playing host to countless separate realities,” as well as “the first earth-shattering revelations that will have everyone talking.” The patchwork realm in question, Battleworld, has already been the subject of both a teaser trailer and map graphic; the “earth-shattering revelations” might include addressing long-standing rumors that Marvel will reboot its entire line following the conclusion of the Secret Wars series.

Secret Wars Live Kickoff will be available online at, starting at 12pm Pacific Jan. 20, with fans invited to “join in the conversation” via the social media hashtag #SecretWars.
