'Marvel's Avengers' Becomes Most Downloaded Beta in PlayStation History

Publisher Square Enix revealed on Wednesday that the beta for Marvel's Avengers is the most downloaded beta in PlayStation history.
The milestone was shared in a social media post that included a clip of Iron Man and the Hulk showing off their heroism and strength in the third-person action-adventure game. The post congratulated developer Crystal Dynamics.

Earlier this week, Square Enix posted a blog that stated there were over 6 million beta players and more than 27 million hours playing in beta.
Marvel's Avengers gameplay was shown by the developer during Summer Game Fest's War Table presentation in June, with editorial director Casey Lynch sharing a story trailer that unleashed the infectious quarantine zone of San Francisco and Dr. George Tarleton's dream of a world made better by science.
Lynch described the project as a "big, ambitious game" where new threats will always be on the horizon. Closed beta dropped in August.
Users can play as each Avenger — Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Ms. Marvel — and utilize different abilities, strategies and heroic moves to move through the story and combat. Veteran actors Nolan North and Troy Baker are among the voice cast.
Marvel's Avengers, which was originally set for release in May, officially releases Sept. 4 on PS4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows and Stadia, as well as next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X.
