Make sure your Walkmans have fresh batteries, because Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy are back in action. The studio announced the beginning of production for the follow-up to James Gunn's 2014 sci-fi superhero hit with a new teaser image and an official cast list, featuring some surprise additions.

While both Kurt Russell's and newcomer Pom Klementieff's involvement in the project has been known for months, Marvel has revealed that The Knick's Chris Sullivan and The Great Gatsby's Elizabeth Debicki will also be joining the cast for Vol. 2. The studio didn't release any names for the new characters.

The teaser image for the movie is similarly vaguely revealing. While both the new logo for the second movie and a miniature Groot (apparently regrowing very slowly after his rebirth following the climax of the first movie) are visible, the fact that everyone is in silhouette ensures that any potential changes in appearance will be kept under wraps for the time being.

Again written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will see the return of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn and Karen Gillan, with Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper also back as the voices of Groot and Rocket Raccoon, respectively. The film is scheduled for a May 5, 2017 release.
