Netflix Developing 'We Can Be Heroes' Sequel With Robert Rodriguez
Netflix is in development on a sequel to Robert Rodriguez's superhero kids movie We Can Be Heroes.
The feature, which drew from characters in the director's Spy Kids franchise and early aughts movie The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, followed the children of Earth's superheroes that have to take on alien invaders that have kidnapped their parents.

Rodriguez — who wrote, directed and produced We Can Heroes — will return for the sequel.
The sequel was announced along with Netflix's holiday viewership numbers. According to the streamer, which counts viewership based on just two minutes of viewing time by a subscriber, the 2020 Christmas week— running from Dec. 25 to Dec. 31— was the service's biggest on record for the same week, year-over-year, as measured by both total view hours and average view hours per subscriber across each period.
Contributing to the growth in its yearly holiday viewing numbers is Netflix's bump in 2020 subscribership. Across the first three financial quarters of 2020, the streamer added some 28 million subscribers.
According to the streamer, 44 million households viewed We Can be Heroes in the movie's first 28 days on the service. (By comparison, Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods drew 27 million in a similar time frame.)
