New 'Gambler' Trailer Teases Romance and Painful Debts
The second trailer for The Gambler has been released, and it proves one thing: Michael Kenneth Williams can outshine everyone else in a movie with just one line.
Following last month’s redband trailer for Rupert Wyatt’s remake of the 1974 movie about a man (James Caan) who gets in way over his head trying to deal with his gambling addiction, this trailer spends time setting up the relationship between Mark Wahlberg and Brie Larson’s characters and underplaying the threat of what happens should Wahlberg’s plan to save himself fall apart.
Heat Vision breakdown
In the middle of the Rolling Stones-soundtracked smirk- and slapfest, Williams shows up at 1:39 to deliver what’s arguably the highlight of the entire thing. His delivery of the line “You musta thought you was magic occasionally” feels like it’s come from a different film altogether, and already suggests that his gangster will end up being the best thing about the movie.
The Gambler opens in select theaters Dec. 19. Go see it for Williams’ sake, if nothing else.
