'Ouija' Sequel Gets Release Date, Screenwriters

Universal is forging ahead with Ouija 2, a sequel to last year’s horror hit that starred Olivia Cooke.

Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard, who penned the 2013 horror movie Oculus, wrote the screenplay for the new project, which has been given a release date of Oct. 21, 2016.

Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Bradley Fuller and Andrew Form, Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum and Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis are producing.

The first movie followed of a group of friends attempting to make contact with a recently deceased classmate through a Ouija board who then awakens a dark and terrifying presence.

The movie grossed $50 million domestically and $100 million worldwide on a reported budget of $5 million.
