Paradigm is cornering the market on hot horror directors.

The agency has signed up-and-coming helmer Nico van den Brink, the Dutch newcomer who just set up a horror feature at New Line, for representation.

The signing occurred in what was described as an extremely competitive situation.

Van den Brink was behind a horror short titled Sweet Tooth, which premiered in July at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival. It centered on a woman who comes home to her apartment tenement and learns that her upstairs neighbors — a mother and her two kids — have been killed. Things get creepy when she begins to hear the sounds of kids' laughter and running.

In September, New Line picked up the movie rights and put van den Brink, who had only made shorts and commercials up until then, on track to make his feature debut with the big-screen adaptation.

The move also put him in business with James Wan, the horror master behind billion-dollar-grossing The Conjuring movies and its spinoffs, who is also producing Sweet Tooth. Wan and his label, Atomic Monster, are also repped by Paradigm.

The agency also represents David F. Sandberg, who directed this summer's horror hit, Annabelle: Creation and is now working on Shazam!.

Van den Brink is managed by Jake Wagner and Scott Stoops at Good Fear and by lawyer Jeff Frankel at McKuin Frankel.
