Paramount Unveils 'Ninja Turtles' History Documentary (Video)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2011
"Turtle Power" features interviews with the creators of the original comic book as well as those involved in the original movie adaptations and merchandising of the franchise.

So, you’re curious about the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie but don’t know anything about the characters or history of the franchise? Paramount is unveiling a new documentary -- but it's not exactly an average studio-built promo piece.

Paramount plans to release Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to coincide with the big-screen reboot of the franchise, but the documentary actually started life as the dream of three fans, Isaac Elliott-Fisher, Mark Hussey and Randall Lobb, in 2008.

The three spent the ensuing years splitting time between day jobs and researching, writing and shooting a documentary that would eventually include interviews with such TMNT luminaries as creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman, Steve Barron (director of the original live-action Turtles movie) and Brian Henson, who worked on the creation of the costumes for that movie. Along the way, they also documented themselves creating the movie, releasing footage online to help promote the project.

The result of their labors will finally be unveiled when Paramount releases Turtle Power on DVD and Digital HD on Aug. 12, four days after the cinema release of Jonathan Liebesman’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
