'Peanuts': New Trailer Introduces New Kid in Town

The arrival of a little red-haired girl steals Charlie Brown's heart.

The second trailer for The Peanuts Movie, the big-screen version of Charles Schulz's beloved newspaper strip, is filled with discoveries: Not only do audiences find out more about the plot of the movie and see another way in which Schulz's iconic linework will appear onscreen, there's also the revelation of a brand-new form of uncanny valley: realistic hair on cartoony figures. Good grief.

The trailer is charming, focusing on the arrival of a newcomer to Charlie Brown's school — spoilers for fans, but she's cute and has red hair — with the most charming, and surprising, moment perhaps being the way that Charlie Brown's memories appear onscreen as he's thinking of them, looking just like Schulz's drawings brought to life in iconic black and white.

That said, good luck not getting distracted by Lucy and Peppermint Patty's photorealistic hair, which seems oddly out of sync with everything else around it, not to mention the interesting music choices. Quite how the mellow jazz music of Vince Guaraldi's television scores got replaced by The Who and DJ Khaled is a mystery for the ages.

Peanuts, directed by Ice Age: Continental Drift director Steve Martino and produced by Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz, Cornelius Uliano, Michael J. Travers and Paul Feig, will be released Nov. 6.
