'Prep School Confidential' Writer Inks New Two-Book Deal

Kara Thomas goes from posh New England to a gritty Pennsylvania murder mystery in her next novel

Prep School Confidential writer Kara Thomas has signed a two-book deal with Penguin Random House imprint Delacorte.

First up will be the stand-alone mystery Darkest Corners. Imagined as a True Detective-meets-Gillian Flynn’s Dark Places story, it follows two estranged childhood friends whose lives are upended the summer after their high school graduation when the serial killer they helped send to prison might go free.

Thomas is the author of the three-book Prep School Confidential series (written under the pen name Kara Taylor) about a Manhattan teen who gets caught up in murder and mysteries at a blue-blood New England prep school (described by the Portland Review of Books as “Veronica Mars meets Dennis Lehane”).

She also penned the pilot script for The Revengers, a show developed by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack for The CW that ultimately did not move forward at the network.

Publication is scheduled for spring 2016.

Thomas is repped by New Leaf Literary & Media, UTA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
