The event will take place in the popular gaming platform, with players invited to seven unique experiences Dec. 1.

To mark the release of Ready Player Two, Ernest Cline’s eagerly anticipated follow-up to the 2011 novel centering around a virtual world called the Oasis where visitors could lose themselves among familiar pop culture icons, the author has teamed with gaming platform Roblox for a special virtual event launching next week.

The Ready Player Two/Roblox Event will launch with a virtual Q&A session between Cline and Roblox founder and CEO Dave Baszucki, which will include clues to a special Ready Player Two treasure hunt across seven experiences inside Roblox; players who complete the hunt will receive virtual rewards created specifically for the event. The event space is already open in advance of the official Dec. 1 launch, with more than 1 million users visiting in the first 24 hours.

The partnership isn’t the first time that Cline’s virtual world of the Oasis has teamed with Roblox; a 2018 event promoting the release of Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One movie attracted 13 million players. “Roblox is the closest thing to the Oasis in real life, and this contest is the closest thing to the treasure hunt in my book,” Cline teased in a statement.

Ready Player Two is published Nov. 24, and the Ready Player Two/Roblox Event will launch Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. PT.
