Red Sonja may be picking up her sword once again.

The story of the female warrior, a creation of Conan the Barbarian author Robert E. Howard and comic writer Roy Thomas, has been long in development at Nu Image/Millennium Films.

And now after a dormant phase, the redheaded fighter is back in action, with the company hiring Christopher Cosmos to write a brand new script.

No director is attached nor are any actors involved at this stage. At one point, Robert Rodriguez was developing the project, intending to direct his then-girlfriend Rose McGowan. Doug Aarniokoski was another writer-director who worked on the project at a certain stage.

Details of Cosmos' take were not revealed.

Sonja was popularized in the 1970s by a comic series from Marvel Comics and had the tagline "She-Devil with a Sword." One of her characteristics was wearing a silver scale mail armour in the form of a bikini. (The comics were revived in the mid-2000's by Dynamite Entertainment and are still going strong.)

Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson, Christa Campbell, and Lati Grobman are executive producing Sonja.

Cosmos began as an assistant at Benderspink, the management-production concern involved with such movies as We're the Millers and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, before becoming a vp. He left to pursue his passion, screenwriting, and sold his first script, a post-apocalyptic thriller titled The Fall, to QED in 2012. He is also developing an actioner titled Scouts and Raiders, which Benderspink is packaging, and is prepping to go out with his comic/movie project Langley High in the coming weeks.

He is repped by Benderspink and attorney Joe Weiner at MiloknayWeiner.
