'Rise of the Tomb Raider' Game Trailer Shows What Lara Croft Did Next (Video)
It's not easy being Lara Croft, as the new trailer for Rise of the Tomb Raider — a follow-up to the 2013 game Tomb Raider, which rebooted the franchise — demonstrates. In fact, seemingly certain death is just around the corner. But, as Lara puts it, that's "the only way to live."
The trailer, titled "Aim Greater," certainly lives up to its name, comparing fictional treasure hunter and adventurer Croft to Amelia Earhart, Sir Ernest Shackleton and other real-life explorers and pioneers. "Throughout history," the voiceover explains, "the boldest have dared to go further. They risked death, and in doing so, lived on forever."

What drove them, she goes on to explain, was "the search for something greater" — like, for example, Croft's own obsession with discovering the truth behind supernatural myths and legends after her experiences with the impossible in the 2013 game. The new game sees Croft racing against a mysterious organization called Trinity in an attempt to prove that magic exists by discovering a lost city rumored to contain the secret of immortality. Presuming, of course, she survives the attempt to find it in the first place.
Rise of the Tomb Raider, written by Rhianna Pratchett (daughter of the late Terry Pratchett), is being developed by Crystal Dynamics for Microsoft Studios for a late 2015 release on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Watch the "Aim Greater" trailer below.
