The Rock Takes on a Massive Earthquake in First 'San Andreas' Trailer

The big one finally arrives in next year's disaster movie

2014 been a bad year for California, which ended up trashed in both Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Godzilla — but as the newly-released teaser for San Andreas demonstrates, things aren’t going to get better in 2015.

The movie centers on an earthquake along the San Andreas Fault so big that it decimates almost everything on the west coast and, as teased by Paul Giamatti, will impact the east coast as well. Considering the already-present earthquake-phobia of most Bay Area residents, this movie might have to carry a special trigger warning in certain areas.

Amazingly, this is the first big earthquake movie since 1974’s Charlton Heston vehicle Earthquake. Less surprisingly, it’s Dwayne Johnson who managed to make the earth move under our feet once again as a helicopter pilot searching for his daughter in the midst of the destruction, with Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario and Archie Panjabi also making appearances.

Directed by Brad Peyton, who worked with Johnson on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, San Andreas will be released May 29, 2015.
