'Rogue One' International Trailer Reveals New Story Details

Why would Jyn Erso get involved with the Rebellion anyway?

While the international version of the new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is very close to the domestic version released last week, there are a couple of small differences that could mean the world — or perhaps the galaxy — to those looking for clues about the next Star Wars movie.

The differences come in dialogue at the top of the trailer, with Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) telling Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) about the coded Imperial message the Rebellion has managed to intercept: "It indicates that a major weapons test is imminent," she explains, although she later admits that the Rebellion doesn't quite know what kind of weapon it is yet. "We need to know what it is and how to destroy it," she says. But they do know where it came from, as Andor reveals.

"The message was sent by your father," he tells Erso.

This is the first on-screen confirmation of what Mads Mikkelsen accidentally revealed during a British television interview months ago — and also the first confirmation that Erso's father is working for the Empire.

The trailer also features new blink-and-you'll-miss-it shots of the black-armored Death Troopers and a variation on one of Star Wars' most famous lines.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be released Dec. 16.
