Russo Brothers to Direct, Produce 'Electric State' Adaptation for Universal Pictures

Millie Bobby Brown is attached to star as a teenage girl who discovers a robot in her life sent by her missing brother.

Universal Pictures has landed the rights to adapt the graphic novel The Electric State as a feature film to be directed and produced by the Russo Brothers.

The Electric State movie, based on the Simon Stålenhag book, will be produced by Mike Larocca via Anthony and Joe Russo's production banner AGBO. And Millie Bobby Brown is attached to star as a teenage girl in an alternative future who realizes that a strange but sweet robot who comes to her has actually been sent by her missing brother.

She and the robot set out to find the brother in an imaginative world of humans mixing with all manner of robots, uncovering a grand conspiracy in the process.

“We're thrilled to have this deal with Universal who has committed to a theatrical release of Electric State. This is incredible news for us as filmmakers, and for audiences around the world who want an opportunity to experience film's in theaters again. This is also a positive sign that, as vaccines become available, the theatrical market is returning," Anthony and Joe Russo said in a statement.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely wrote the script for the movie adaptation. Andy and Barbara Muschietti are attached to produce as well.

The Russo brothers are repped by CAA. Brown is repped by WME, Shelter PR and PCMA Productions.

The Muschiettis are repped by WME.
