'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark' Gets Summer 2019 Release Date

The Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark feature film has gotten a release date.

The adaptation, which counts Guillermo del Toro as a writer-producer, will hit theaters on Aug. 9, 2019, via Lionsgate. 

Based on Alvin Schwartz’s internationally best-selling book series, the movie follows a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town.

Andre Ovredal directed from a script by Daniel Hageman, Kevin Hageman and del Toro. Along with Oscar-winning director del Toro, Sean Daniel, Elizabeth Grave, Jason Brown and J. Miles Dale produced. CBS Films and eOne co-financed the project.

On the Aug. 9 date, the horror feature will open opposite another adaptation of another beloved piece of children's literature: Kenneth Branagh and Disney's Artemis Fowl.
