Selma Blair Quits Twitter Following Defense of James Gunn
Selma Blair says she's quitting Twitter after she used the platform to defend Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, who was recently fired from the third film in the Marvel franchise for past controversial tweets.
"So long. You can find me on Instagram . #Istandwithjamesgunn," the actress wrote Saturday to her followers.

The move followed Blair's repeated defenses of Gunn on the platform last Sunday, where she wrote to the director, "@JamesGunn I thank you for your talent, your decency and your evolution as a man. You propped me up when I was in a scary place, and guided me towards the decent and right thing to do. You have shown strength of character more than most anyone I know. You understood."
Blair also shared a Change.org petition asking for Marvel to rehire Gunn on Twitter because, in her words, "if people are punished despite changing, then what does that teach people about owning mistakes and evolving?" She called Gunn "one of the good ones."
On Thursday, Blair seemed to be already considering leaving the platform, sharing the Guardian story "Was James Gunn the first undeserving victim of Hollywood’s new zero-tolerance policy?" with the caption, "Does anyone else have feelings about leaving Twitter?"
Blair and Gunn have been close friends for years, with the former saying that the director helped cement her resolve to come forward with allegations of sexual harassment against director James Toback.
"Really, it was two men who were the most comforting to me in saying, 'You'll be safe, you'll be OK,'" Blair told The Hollywood Reporter in February. "That was James Gunn and [Doctor Strange writer-helmer] Scott Derrickson. They reached out and said how important it was to be on this side of history."
Gunn was ousted from his role as a writer and director on the Guardians franchise after conservative personalities resurface old tweets from Gunn in which he joked about topics including pedophilia and rape. In addition to Blair, Guardians star Dave Bautista defended the director.
