'Sherlock Frankenstein' Introduces New Generation of Comic Book Bad Guys (Exclusive Trailer)
The ersatz superhero world of Black Hammer, Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston's critically acclaimed post-crisis comic book series, is about to get a little bit bigger, as the bad guys take the stage in a new spinoff series — and The Hollywood Reporter has the exclusive reveal of the series' new trailer.
Sherlock Frankenstein & the Legion of Evil is the first in a number of series exploring the larger universe beyond Spiral City and Black Hammer Farm, the place where superheroes go when they can't save the world anymore. Written by Lemire with art by Spanish illustrator David Rubin, Sherlock Frankenstein sees a reporter try to uncover the secrets behind the villains of the city, only to discover that some things might have been better left in the dark.
"Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston created a realistic world with the Black Hammer main series — full of life, edge and complex characters that we all can relate to," artist Rubin told THR. "I'm so proud to collaborate with Jeff and to contribute and expand that wonderful world with my work on this new series, and hope that the readers enjoy the drama, noir detective style and heart that Jeff and I put into Sherlock Frankenstein & the Legion of Evil."
Saying that he was "very excited to unleash the weird and wicked world of Sherlock Frankenstein," Lemire added, "David Rubín has created a new pocket in the Black Hammer universe that was so much fun to write. I can't wait for readers to meet Cthu-Lou, Metal Minotaur and the rest of Black Hammer's rogues gallery."
The four-issue series launches digitally and in comic book stores Oct. 18, with the first issue featuring a main cover by Rubin and a variant edition with Mike Mignola cover artwork.
