'Songbird' Trailer Unveils Michael Bay-Produced Pandemic Thriller

The film shows a world four years into a lockdown and haunted by COVID-23.

For all the terrible things that 2020 has wrought, Songbird imagines a future in which things get even worse.

The film, from producer Michael Bay and director Adam Mason, takes place two years in the future, in which COVID-23 now wreaks havoc on the world by attacking the brain. Infected Americans are forced into quarantine camps called Q-Zones, while some fight back against these brutal restrictions. Amid this backdrop is the budding love story between a motorbike courier named Nico (K.J. Apa) who has rare immunity, and Sara (Sofia Carson), a young artist who is believed to be infected.

Songbird was among the first films to shoot in Los Angeles after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.

Simon Boyes wrote the script with Mason. The cast also includes Craig Robinson, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare, Jenna Ortega, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Walter Hauser and Demi Moore.

No release date has been set for the STX project.
