Paramount debuted the first trailer for its upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular Sega video game franchise Sonic the Hedgehog on Tuesday.

The titular speedy Erinaceinae, voiced by Ben Schwartz, shows off his moves as he goes up against the nefarious Dr. Robotnik, portrayed with mustachioed swarthy villainy by Jim Carrey. James Marsden's human character Tom Wachowski, a new creation for the film, is also introduced.

In December, the first poster for the upcoming film was released, showing off a new look for the familiar fast-paced hedgehog. The traditional, cartoonish take on the character has been eschewed for a more "realistic" take — or as realistic as a humanoid hedgehog that can nearly break the sound barrier can be.

Sonic is directed by first-time feature filmmaker Jeff Fowler.

The film hits theaters Nov. 8.
