Newcomer Tom Taylor has won an international search to nab a key role in Sony’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Taylor will play Jake Chambers, a son-like figure to the Gunslinger being portrayed by Idris Elba. The Dark Tower book series incorporates many genres such as Western, fantasy and sci-fi and tells of the battle between good and evil with the characters of the Gunslinger and the Man in Black at its core. The Man in Black is being played by Matthew McConaughey.

The film is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel.

Producing are Akiva Goldsman, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins.

Feb. 17, 2017 is the release date.

The casting is major coup for Taylor, whose few credits only date to last year. He appeared in a supporting role in the BBC family drama Doctor Foster and appeared in TNT’s Sean Bean drama Legends.

Sony had no comment.
