The Soska Twins Ink First-Look Deal With David Cronenberg Producer
Jen and Sylvia Soska, the twin horror-movie directors that established a cult following with the 2012 slasher pic American Mary, have signed a first look deal with Prospero Pictures, the longtime producer of David Cronenberg movies.
Under the pact, the Soska twins' Twisted Twins Productions will give Martin Katz's production shingle the exclusive first right to develop and produce film and TV properties originated, written and directed by the sisters. The Soska sisters have just completed a remake of Cronenberg's 1977 horror movie Rabid, which is set to hit the festival circuit later this year.

The updated Rabid film revolves around Rose, a young woman who, after an accident leaves her scarred beyond recognition, undergoes a radical, untested stem-cell treatment. While turning Rose into the belle of the ball, the experimental transformation comes at a price.
Movie producer credits for Katz include Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method and Maps to the Stars, for which Julianne Moore won the best actress Palme d’Or at Cannes. Known for their shocking genre filmmaking and elevated body horror, the Soska sisters also worked with WWE Studios on See No Evil 2 and Vendetta.
"The Soska sisters have set a new standard for female-driven genre filmmaking and we are so excited to be in business with them for the long-haul,” said Katz, who runs Prospero along with executive producer Karen Wookey, in a statement.
The Soska sisters have also written comic books for Marvel, which released their first comic book work in an issue of 2015’s Secret Wars Journal miniseries.
“Marty and Karen just viscerally understand the kind of elevated genre we’ve been making all our lives. We want to make all our movies with them," the Soska twins added in their own statement.
