Characters from the original series, 'Next Generation,' 'Deep Space Nine' and 'Voyager' will be teaming up.

2019 will bring an unexpected Star Trek milestone when the crews of the first four Trek incarnations — the original series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager — are forced to compete against each other in the upcoming comic book series, Star Trek: The Q Conflict.

As the title suggests, the six-issue series is all the fault of the omnipotent entity that appeared throughout multiple 1980s incarnations of the television franchise. But don’t think that the series will only be about the various Starfleet crews in conflict; writer Scott Tipton — who’ll co-write the series with brother David, with art coming from David Messina — teased in a statement, “All of Starfleet’s most legendary officers join together for the first time against some of the greatest threats they’ve ever faced. It’s like nothing you’ve seen before!”

The series was one of two big announcements from publisher IDW Publishing Friday, both coming in advance of the publisher’s Saturday afternoon panel, “IDW Publishing: The Big Scoop.” The second announcement marks the publisher’s 2019 20th anniversary, with an all-new weekly publishing program called 20/20, which takes some of the pop culture properties IDW publishes and imagines them taking place 20 years in the past, or future, of their respective timelines.

Titles announced for the program are Ghostbusters: IDW 20/20, featuring the Ghostbusters of the future; Jem and the Holograms: IDW 20/20, in which the band gets back together for a reunion two decades from now; My Little Pony: IDW 20/20, set 20 years in the past of the mythology; Star Trek: IDW 20/20, set 20 years before Star Trek: The Next Generation; and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: IDW 20/20, in which the Turtles of tomorrow have to save the world one more time.

Both 20/20 and Star Trek: The Q Conflict will launch in January 2019.
