'Star Wars' fans can examine the new version of the spacecraft on the current issue of 'Fortune'

Disney CEO Bob Iger graces the cover of the new issue of Fortune, but Star Wars fans might be more intrigued by what's behind him on the magazine's cover: the first close-up image of the new Millennium Falcon from the upcoming J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, set to hit theaters in December 2015.

Fans got a brief glimpse of the updated spacecraft in the Force Awakens trailer that debuted last month, not to mention a lingering look at part of the exterior in a video from Abrams' Bad Robot Productions posted online in September. But Fortune claims this is the first up-close look at the new Falcon.

Fans can further examine the intricacies of the new spacecraft in this shot of Iger leaning against it, which serves as the opening photo of the story. Lucasfilm's special effects division, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), worked with Fortune to create the cover and opening photo in the story.

For the cover, The Force Awakens visual effects art director Yannick Dusseault gave Fortune six options, showing the Falcon in different ways. The spacecraft was rendered in its skeletal form and a more layered "textured render," ILM told the magazine, which were combined in Photoshop to create the final image.
