'Cyberpunk 2077' Wins Best PlayStation Game at Gamescom
During Thursday's opening night of Gamescom, Europe's largest annual video game trade fair, a number of award winners were announced including best Sony PlayStation game, which went to the role-playing action-adventure title Cyberpunk 2077 from Polish studio CD Projekt Red.
The game has been hotly anticipated since it was revealed at last year's E3 conference that Keanu Reeves would be starring as Johnny Silverhands, a mercenary, called an edgerunner, who is capable of hacking into a Matrix-esque version of the "deep net." The game is set for release Nov. 19.

Last June, it was revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 would also be receiving a TV adaptation, with a 10-episode anime series in the works from Netflix and Trigger Studio. The series will be directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and is set to debut in 2022.
Elsewhere, best action game and best action-adventure game went to Star Wars: Squadrons and Watch Dogs Legion, respectively.
Little Nightmares 2 from Bandai Namco Entertainment won best Nintendo Switch game, while best indie game went to Curious Expeditions 2 and best multiplayer game was handed to Operation Tango.
Best Microsoft Xbox game went to Tell Me Why, a narrative adventure game that includes a playable trans character, the first for a major video game. August Aiden Black and Erica Lindbeck star in the game as twins seeking to uncover mysteries from their past.
Gamescom, running Aug. 27-30, is being held entirely virtually this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
