Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow Reteam to Produce Family Adventure 'Powerhouse' (Exclusive)
Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment is reteaming with Jurassic World filmmaker Colin Trevorrow for Powerhouse, a family action package that includes producer Simon Kinberg and rising indie filmmaker Emily Carmichael.
Powerhouse is based on an original story by Trevorrow. Carmichael will write the script and direct the project, with Trevorrow producing along with Kinberg, who is best known for overseeing the X-Men franchise for Fox.

Plot details for Powerhouse are being kept hidden deep in the cellar. However, Amblin, who hired Trevorrow to helm Jurassic World after his indie breakout Safety Not Guaranteed, jumped at the chance to work with another promising filmmaker.
Carmichael demonstrated her artistic versatility by having short stories and essays be part of the best-selling book Ophelia Speaks and created the comic strip Whiz Kids for the Harvard Crimson. But it’s her video game and geek-tinged works such as the animated web series The Adventures of Ledo and Ix and the animated short RPG OKC that got Hollywood’s attention. Her name has even surfaced as a possible contender to direct Marvel’s Captain Marvel.
Trevorrow saw her short film The Hunter and the Swan Discuss Their Meeting, which won the grand jury prize at the 2012 Science Fiction Fantasy Short Film Festival, and invited her to visit the set of his Focus Features drama The Book of Henry. It was during the visit that they developed the characters who populate the world of Powerhouse.
“Emily Carmichael is the next great writer-director of the kind of movies I love,” said Trevorrow. "Her ability to find warmth and humanity in genre storytelling is a superpower in itself.”
Said Amblin Partners president of production, Holly Bario: “We look forward to seeing Emily's creative vision take shape with a truly original story from Colin which has all the signature qualities of an Amblin film.”
Carmichael is repped by Verve and Ginsburg/Daniels. Trevorrow, who is prepping to direct Star Wars: Episode IX while also producing sci-fi love story Intelligent Life for Amblin, is also repped by Verve and Ginsburg/Daniels, as well as 3 Arts Entertainment.
