Jason Mitchell, who is portraying rapper Eazy-E in Universal's biographical drama Straight Outta Compton this summer, has joined the cast of New Line’s comedy, Keanu, alongside Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, and Will Forte.

Produced by Key and Peele and written by Peele and Alex Rubens, the story revolves around a group of friends pretending to be drug dealers in order to rescue a stolen cat.

Peter Atencio, director of Key and Peele’s Comedy Central series, will helm the project, which is set for release on April 22.

Straight Outta Compton, which also stars Corey Hawkins, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Aldis Hodge and Neil Brown, Jr., will be Mitchell's first major film role. The project follows the rise and eventual disbanding of N.W.A., a hip hop group from Compton, California comprised of Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. Dr. Dre and Ice Cube serve as two of the producers, while F. Gary Gray is directing. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on August 14.

Repped by UTA, Authentic Talent & Literary Management and Ziffren Brittenham, Mitchell is next appearing in Vincent N-Roxxy, an independent feature also starring Emile Hirsch and Zoe Kravitz.
