Ta-Nehisi Coates to Narrate 'Black Panther' Marvel Recaps (Exclusive Video)

With Black Panther one of the biggest comics hit in years, Marvel is hoping to keep the momentum going by taking a page out of the Hollywood marketing playbook.

The publisher is partnering with production house Bow & Arrow to produce hip-hop-driven trailer recaps that aim to build buzz ahead of each new issue.

The first trailer will be an intro to the character, titled Black Panther 101, and hit the day before Black Panther #2 hits stores May 11. Then, each month thereafter, a new Previously On video will be released. Marvel plans on working with established and rising hip-hop acts to supply music for the video.

The first issue of the comic sold more than 330,000 in its first week when it went on sale in April. The book enjoyed tremendous presales buzz ever since it was announced that National Book Award winner Ta-Nehisi Coates was writing the new comic. Coates will narrate the new videos.

Interest in the character remains extremely high, stoked by the character’s appearance in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, expected to be one of the biggest movies of the year. And a pristine condition comic featuring the character's first appearance, Fantastic Four #52, just sold for $90,000 on comics auction website Comiclink, a mind-blowing record.
