Michelangelo, Leonardo, Donatello and Raphael are already charged with protecting New York City from the forces of evil, now they are being asked to help with the city's tourism efforts.

The teenage anthropomorphic turtles have been named the official NYC Family Ambassadors, meaning they will lend their faces (and shells) to a yearlong campaign that will highlight New York as a family-friendly destination.

“We’re excited to enlist the help of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, four dynamic and adventurous New Yorkers, to welcome family travelers to NYC,” said Fred Dixon, president and CEO of NYC & Company, who with Nickelodeon, have launched the new campaign.

The campaign will be promoted through out-of-home media in the five boroughs, with art being created by Nickelodeon. Past NYC Family Ambassadors have included Dora and Friends, Curious George and The Muppets.

The turtles will be returning to NYC in big way this summer, with Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 out June 2.
