They don't build cyborg killing machines like they used to

Ahead of the upcoming first trailer for the 2015 reboot of the Terminator franchise, a "living one-sheet" poster has been released teasing the arrival of Terminator: Genisys.

The poster, which features the familiar Terminator skull crumbling into a pile of dust in a way that suggests an hourglass, and can be seen here — set to a variation of Brad Fiedel's theme music from the original Terminator movie in 1984 — is eye-catching, if somewhat difficult to parse. Is the new movie about the Terminators falling apart? Is the hourglass iconography intentional, and if so, who (or what) is time running out for? And, perhaps most importantly, shouldn't Terminators be built in a way that prevents them simply turning into dust?

Accompanying the release of the poster, Paramount and Skydance Productions have debuted a social media hashtag to discuss the tease: #HeIsBack. Way to go to fulfill a promise first made 30 years ago.

Terminator: Genisys, directed by Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor, stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney, and revisits the history established in James Cameron's original movie. The movie is scheduled for a July 1, 2015, release.
