Tom Hanks Sci-Fi Project 'Bios' Goes to Amblin Entertainment

Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment is ready to explore what happens when Tom Hanks is the last man on Earth.
Amblin has picked up Bios, with Hanks attached to star and Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones) set to direct. The project is from screenwriters Craig Luck and Ivor Powell, with Robert Zemeckis, Craig Luck, Sapochnik and Andy Berman executive producing. Kevin Misher, Jack Rapke, Jackie Levine and Ivor Powell are producing.

The project centers on Finch (Hanks), the last man on Earth. As he faces his own mortality, he builds a robot to care for his dog, the only thing he truly loves. Finch must teach the robot to become "human" enough to take care for his dog, and also must convince his dog to accept the robot as his caretaker and friend.
"Bios is an original, emotionally stirring tale that at its core is very much an Amblin movie. I can think of no one more perfect to embody this story about the meaning of being human than Tom Hanks," Spielberg said Tuesday in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
The project marks a reunion between Spielberg and his longtime friends and frequent collaborators Zemeckis and Hanks (he has the drama The Post, with Hanks starring, opening at the end of the year). And it marks the biggest acquisition for Amblin since the exit of CEO Michael Wright.
