The actor plays video game character Nathan Drake in the long-awaited adaptation.

Uncharted fans had their first chance to see the cinematic version of game hero Nathan Drake on Thursday morning, when Tom Holland tweeted an image of himself in full costume from the movie for the first time.

The image was shared with the caption, “It’s nice to meet you, I’m Nate,” with #uncharted as a hashtag. The Sony Pictures adaptation of the video game property — which launched in 2007 with the PlayStation 3 game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, and has continued through 2017’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, centering on a professional treasure hunter who claims to be a descendant of Sir Francis Drake — has been in the works since 2008, with a number of different actors linked to the lead role before Holland signed on, among them Nathan Fillion and Mark Wahlberg.

The role was originated in the video game by voice actor Nolan North, who tweeted his approval of Holland’s casting — along with three shots from his visit to the movie’s Valencia, Spain, shoot — earlier Thursday.

Uncharted is currently in production, with Ruben Fleischer (Venom) directing. The film also stars Wahlberg, Antonio Banderas and Tati Gabrielle, and is scheduled for a July 2021 release.
