'Undefeated' Producer, 'Magic Mike XXL' Assoc. Producer Team for YA Novel (Exclusive)

'Battlestar Galactica' meets 'Lord of the Flies' in 'Devastation Class.'

Devastation Class, a space-set YA novel by producers Glen Zipper and Elaine Mongeon, was acquired by Simon & Schuster imprint Saga Press in a two-book deal, the publisher announced.

Publication is expected in 2017. The book is envisioned as the first in a series.

The story is about an unlikely group of cadets who commandeer a decommissioned starship to save Earth from an alien attack. The ship gets sent to a distant corner of space by some experimental technology. Earth's survival hinges on them finding a way home, but first they must overcome what the publisher describes as "an insurmountable enemy, a mystery eons in the making and the fabric of time, space and reality itself."

In a statement, Saga Press editor Navah Wolfe called it "an epic space opera series with a smart twist that fans of both Battlestar Galactica and The Lord of the Flies will love."

Zipper was one of the producers on Undefeated, a documentary about a high school football team. It won an Academy Award in 2012. He's also a producer on Colin Hanks' directorial debut, All Things Must Pass. Mongeon is an associate producer on the forthcoming sequel Magic Mike XXL and the new 1980s-set Amazon series Red Oaks.

Charlie Olsen at Inkwell repped the pair on the book deal. Zipper is repped by attorney Bill Jacobson of Jacobson, Russell. Mongeon is repped by attorneys Amy Nickin and Mark Merriman of Frankfurt, Kurnit.
