Universal's 'Candyman' Finds 2021 Release Date

'Candyman' Trailer
The horror film, from Nia DaCosta and producer Jordan Peele, now opens Aug. 27, 2021.

In 2021, you will say his name five times into the mirror, and he will appear. Universal and MGM have found a new date for its upcoming horror film Candyman, which is now set for Aug. 27, 2021.

The project, from director Nia DaCosta, had previously been taken off the theatrical calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic. DaCosta, who is also set to direct Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel 2, co-wrote the Candyman with Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld, whose Monkeypaw Productions is producing along with BRON Creative.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Colman Domingo and Vanessa Williams star in the reimagining of the 1992 horror classic. It takes place in the now-gentrified area surrounding Chicago's Cabrini-Green housing projects, where film a grad student once investigated an urban legend about a hook-handed killer.

Prior to COVID-19 shaking up the theatrical calendar, Candyman was slated for June 2020 and was later moved to October of this year, before being taken off the calendar and now finding a new spot for next August.

DaCosta has already released a trailer, as well as a stirring teaser featuring masterful puppetry work.
