Move over, Iron Man and Captain America. Two new super heroes are headed for the big screen, although the world might feel a little less safe knowing that Valiant Entertainment’s Archer & Armstrong are the ones responsible for defending them.

Rumors of a movie based upon the critically-acclaimed series—originally created by Jim Shooter, Barry Windsor-Smith and Bob Layton in 1992 and revived two years ago by Fred Van Lente and Clayton Henry—first emerged online last week, and now THR can exclusively report that Valiant has partnered with the Sean Daniel Company (The Best Man Holiday, the upcoming Ben Hur and The Mummy) to produce the project from a script by BenDavid Grabinski (Cost of Living, Machinima's Enormous and the upcoming The How-To Guide for Saving the World, which Barry Sonnenfeld is attached to direct).

The script for the feature was fully-funded by Valiant, with Valiant CEO Dinesh Shamdasani acting as a producer on the feature alongside Sean Daniel and Jason Brown.

Archer & Armstrong is an action buddy comedy in which the young Obadiah Archer is confronted with the “Great Satan” he has been raised to combat for his entire life, only to discover that his enemy is actually a drunken immortal calling himself Armstrong who couldn’t be less interested in bringing about the apocalypse Archer has been warned since childhood. His own parents and the cult they belong to, on the other hand, might have slightly less trustworthy ambitions.

“There's a reason comic fans have loved Archer & Armstrong and have treasured these characters and their legacy,” Daniel told THR, calling the current series “some of the funniest material you'll read in any format.” He went on to say that he was “honored that Valiant would partner with us on this and Shadowman because they're the most unconventional of heroes, and it's that boldness that make us so excited to bring these characters to life."

Archer & Armstrong will be the third Valiant title to be developed as a movie, following supernatural adventure series Shadowman—again developed in conjunction with the Sean Daniel Company, with J. Michael Straczynski scripting—and Bloodshot, which is set up at Sony with Matthew Vaughn attached and a script by Jeff Wadlow.
