Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz, known as The Vicious Brothers, will direct horror-thriller Temple, based on a script by The Guest screenwriter Simon Barrett.

Neal Edelstein of Hooked Digital Media, Shinya Egawa of Hemisphere Motion Picture Partners, Eric Bassett of Absurda and Mike Macari are producing while Toei Animation in Japan is financing.

The film will shoot in Japan this year.

As a cool tie-in with the film, a book of ghost stories surrounding various real temples in Japan will also be released. Written by Eiji Otsuka, the book will be featured in the film because one of the chapters focuses on the fictional temple in the project. Toei Animation will also create a 15-part anime series based on this book.

The Vicious Brothers' previous work includes supernatural horror film Grave Encounters, which premiered at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, and Extraterrestrial, which premiered at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival. They're repped by ICM Partners and Hanson Jacobson.

Barrett is the wordsmith behind several popular horror films and thrillers, including critically acclaimed 2014 film The Guest, starring Dan Stevens. He also wrote the scripts for 2011’s You're Next and the upcoming project The Woods, which Adam Wingard is directing. He’s repped by WME and Morris Yorn.
