'Walking Dead' Star to Headline Horror Film 'The Boy' (Exclusive)
Lauren Cohan, one of the key actors in The Walking Dead, is making the jump to features, signing on to star in The Boy, a horror thriller from Lakeshore Entertainment and Vertigo Entertainment.
William Brent Bell (The Devil Inside) is directing the project, which is eyeing a March start in British Columbia.
The script, written by Stacey Menear, centers on a nanny (Cohan) who is tasked with overseeing a lifelike doll by a bizarre couple who treat it as a real child. The couple use the doll as way to cope with the death of their young son, but the nanny becomes increasingly convinced that it is alive.
Producing are Lakeshore's Gary Lucchesi and Tom Rosenberg, Vertigo's Roy Lee and Adam Stone, along with Jim Wedaa.
Cohan has appeared in TV shows such as Supernatural, Chuck and The Vampire Diaries before grabbing a lead on AMC's zombie juggernaut, The Walking Dead. She has been on the show since its second season and returns Feb. 8.
While she has made a few appearances in movies, such as John Herzfeld’s drama Reach Me and Death Race 2, this is the first time she is toplining. It also marks a rare feature net by an actor from The Walking Dead, which has not been launching movie gigs for its players as have other shows such as Game of Thrones.
Cohan is repped by CAA and Hansen, Jacobsen.
