'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' Trailer Retells Classic Comic Book Story

Sophie Turner brought the first look to 'The Late Late Show.'

Sophie Turner has unveiled an out-of-this-world trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

The star brought the trailer to Wednesday's Late Late Show, where she and host James Corden offered the first look at the X-Men film that will adapt the classic comic book storyline and send the Marvel mutants into space.

Anticipation for the trailer had been even higher than usual lately, as the film was moved from its original November release date to Feb. 14, 2019. The move was made to accommodate reshoots for its third act, as well as for what studio 20th Century Fox said was to allow it to launch in the prime February spot that saw 2016's Deadpool and this year's Black Panther become big hits.

The film features returning franchise stars James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan and Kodi Smit-McPhee. Jessica Chastain joins the franchise in the villainous role.

This will, presumably, be the final film to feature the cast that first donned the roles in 2011's X-Men: First Class. The looming Disney-Fox merger will mean that the X-Men will be folded into Marvel Studio's cinematic universe, with Disney's Bob Iger recently confirming to The Hollywood Reporter that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige would oversee the X-Men characters once the merger was completed.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is written and directed by longtime X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg, who penned 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, which partially adapted the classic 1980s Dark Phoenix storyline.
