Author Terry J. Benton has found a home for Blood Debts, a new YA fantasy trilogy described as "Dynasty with magic." Publisher Tor Teen has acquired the rights in a six-figure deal and will begin publishing the series in winter 2023.

Blood Debts centers on two Black twins, 16-year-olds Clem and Christina. The siblings must put aside their differences to reunite their family to take back the New Orleans magic counsel their family once ruled. Along the way, they must also solve a decades-old murder that sparked the rising tensions between New Orleans' magical and non-magical communities to avert a war.

“Reading Blood Debts was like binge-watching my new favorite show," said Tor Teen Senior Editor Ali Fisher in a statement. "I gasped, I laughed, I completely fell in love. Benton is a powerhouse new voice in YA fantasy and the relationship between race, magic, and power is fresh and observant. I was on the edge of my seat to see who'd claim the throne!”

Benton is based in Atlanta and holds an engineering degree from Georgia Tech and an MBA for Georgia State. In addition to novel writing, he has aspirations to delve into the worlds of film and TV.

Patrice Caldwell at New Leaf Literary & Media negotiated the deal for North American rights. Film and TV rights are represented by Pouya Shahbazian, and foreign rights are represented by Veronica Grijalva, both at New Leaf Literary & Media.
