'American Idol' Is Allowing Fans to Award a Golden Ticket to Hollywood
For the first time, viewers will pick one singer to go to the show's Hollywood Round
For the first time ever, American Idol fans will have the chance to tell a hopeful "you’re going to Hollywood!"
Producers of the Fox singing series have added a new wrinkle, allowing viewers to have a say in which contestant will receive a coveted golden ticket to the show's Hollywood rounds, which begin the week of Oct. 25 (and air in the spring).
Although the panel of Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and fill-in judge Adam Lambert have already made their decisions regarding which singers will make it through to the next round, four hopefuls who have not been seen by the judges will be at the mercy of America via an online poll. The four contestants are Emily Claire Shlesinger from Dallas, Kay Leon from Brooklyn, Raven Symone Basden from Miramar, Fla. and Tyler Clark from Ephraim, Utah.
In short video clips, each of the four give brief explanations of why he or she should be the next winner before performing a song. Shlesinger performs at her piano, and Leon shows off her Beyonce style. Basden displays a perky preview of the "sauce" she plans to bring to the show with Amy Winehouse's "Rehab," while Clark touts his work ethic before strapping on a guitar while seated in his bathroom for a performance of "Impossible" by Shontelle.
The audition videos and public voting is up now at americanidol.com/poll. Fans can also vote for their favorite contestants using specific hashtags on Facebook or Twitter. The videos will remain open for votes until 11:59 PM PT on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
