Cirque du Soleil’s Show Debut Draws Jeremy Renner, T.J. Miller to Dodger Stadium

The Avengers star Jeremy Renner sat front and center at opening night of the new Cirque du Soleil show Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. Munching on popcorn and sipping white wine, Renner, along with stars like Anthony Anderson, Thomas Middleditch, Travis Barker and Poppy Montgomery, took in the circus-tented performance, which runs in L.A. from Dec. 10 to Feb. 7.

“I wish I was one of the clowns,” said Silicon Valley star T.J. Miller. “I went to circus-arts school. I got a scholarship to go to Paris and study trapeze, which I was terrible at, but I’m a great clown and juggler.”

The audience gasped with suspense throughout the performance, which featured a “steampunk” theme — a combination of science fiction and fantasy that incorporates technology and designs of 19th century steam-powered machinery. However, drummer Travis Barker’s mind already was filled with ideas about what kind of show the Cirque people should do next.

“Can you imagine how big it would be if they partnered with musicians who were still around or the band was still intact? Like KISS or Kendrick Lamar or The Weeknd? It would be awesome,” Barker, who brought his children to the show, told The Hollywood Reporter.

The afterparty featured unlimited booze and cotton candy, plus the opportunity to meet the muscle-bound castmembers, leaving some of the stars feeling a bit self-conscious. Joked Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce star Lisa Edelstein, “Their bodies are incredible and wildly strong. There was a time when I could do a little bit of this, but not anymore. Not anymore.”
