Director Francis Ford Coppola is set to publish The Godfather Notebook, a reproduction of the working notebook he used during the making of the Oscar-winning 1972 film, publisher Regan Arts announced Tuesday.
The 720-page book features Coppola’s handwritten notes on the production and his thoughts on the movie, offering an unprecedented look into the creative process of one of the greatest filmmakers of the late 20th century. (See video below of Coppola showing off the original three-ring binder notebook.)
The book is illustrated with rare and never-before-seen photos of the making of The Godfather, and Coppola has written an introduction to accompany the book.
In a statement announcing the project, Coppola said, “This notebook was my private work reference to The Godfather film, and after many years, I’m excited to share it with those who may be interested. It is the key to understanding what went into making the film from Mario Puzo’s novel.”
A deluxe $250 limited edition version will be offered that is a “faithful” reproduction of the original thee-ring binder and includes additional ephemera. The regular edition will retail for $50. Both versions go on sale Nov. 15. See the cover of the deluxe edition and two interior pages below.
