The story of tonight, as told by Renee Elise Goldsberry.
The Tony winner, who plays Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton, took The Hollywood Reporter behind the scenes of Saturday night’s performance — the last with leads Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr. and Phillipa Soo.
Aaron Paul, Jane Fonda, John Kerry, devout fans Rosie O’Donnell and Mariska Hargitay, Edward Norton and Jennifer Lopez were among those in the audience at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, but Goldsberry spent her time with friends, family and fellow castmembers.
Goldsberry shared a photo diary of the entire evening, from a cast-wide serving of caffeine before the show to the final bow and the Times Square afterparty.
“We are supposed to be getting ready! But we love each other too much! Enjoying cafécito and laughs before the show starts!”
“Finally got dressed! Places!!!”
Capturing my friends backstage as they do their last show! Their spirits will always be here!
“Me and my beloved Schuyler Sisters after our big number! Do you see our pet, Black Squirrel?!?”
“Alysha Deslorieux and Andrew Chappelle, the 2 greatest swings in the world, are watching the show and cheering us on tonight! This ship does not sail without the swings!”
“Act 2! Backstage in the hair room changing looks with Jasmine Cephas Jones and Anthony Ramos!”
“After Chris Jackson sings ‘One Last Time’ — a standing ovation!”
“Final bow! Tears all around!”
“With my family on the stage after the show! A lot of celebrities here, but my family being here means everything to me!”
“Afterparty!!! What a year it has been!!! I love this family!!!”
