Daveed Diggs, who won a Tony Award for his work on Broadway’s Hamilton, is heading to the movies.
The actor-rapper, who plays Thomas Jefferson and the Marquis de Lafayette in the smash Broadway musical, is joining Wonder, Lionsgate’s adaptation of the R.J. Palacio YA novel.
Room star Jacob Tremblay leads a cast that also includes Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Noah Jupe in the project being directed by Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower).
The script, by Jack Thorne and Steve Conrad, centers on Auggie Pullman, a young boy born with a facial deformity who encounters bullies as he attends school for the first time as a fifth grader at private school Beecher Prep.
Diggs, who will play Tremblay’s teacher, is no stranger to the big and small screens. He has appeared on NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and is part of the cast of the upcoming Netflix drama The Get Down, and he performed a rap for Disney’s animated hit pic Zootopia.
