Jon Stewart has aired his final The Daily Show and writers all over America are crying. Not only did he frequently have them on as guests, but his choices moved beyond the obvious names on the bestseller list. And an appearance on the show was a guaranteed boost to sales.
Stewart proved his power one last time in a plug he made for a little-known author at the end of his penultimate show. The lucky writer? His wife Tracey Stewart, whose book, Do Unto Animals, publishes October 6. The book is pitched as showing people how to treat animals more kindly: “Through hundreds of charming illustrations, a few homemade projects and her humorous, knowledgeable voice, Stewart provides insight into the secret lives of animals and the kindest ways to live with and alongside them.”

The author bio describes Stewart as a former veterinary technician and the editor-in-chief of website Moomah, who lives on a farm “with her husband, Jon Stewart; two kids; four dogs; two pigs; one hamster; three rabbits; two guinea pigs; one parrot; and two fish — all rescues except for the kids.”
Before Stewart offered his sweet and generous plug (see video below), the book ranked No. 244,740 on Amazon’s sales list. The day after the plug? No. 11 and by Thursday morning it peaked at No. 7. As of Friday morning, it was still ranked No. 9 on Amazon. (It is also No. 9 on Barnes & Nobles website.)
Perhaps Tracey won’t be complaining if all Jon does for the few first few weeks of unemployment is sit on the sofa with his feet up on the coffee table just channel surfing.
